„Vienna Goes On: Mozart & Lehensteiner“

„Vienna Goes On“ brings together two piano sonatas written in Vienna more than two centuries apart: Mozart’s Sonata in C minor, K. 457, and Ulrich Lehensteiner’s Sonata in B minor.

Rather than presenting past and present as opposites, the programme explores the sonata as a living tradition. Mozart’s dramatic and expressive work stands alongside Lehensteiner’s contemporary approach to the form, combining rhythmic energy and virtuosity with lyrical expression. Vienna Goes On reflects the idea that Vienna’s musical history is not only a heritage to be preserved, but a tradition that continues to inspire new music.

Ulrich Lehensteiner is an Austrian composer based in Vienna whose music combines structural craftsmanship with emotional immediacy and a distinctly contemporary artistic voice. His works, ranging from piano solo to chamber and orchestral music, are characterised by lyrical expression, dramatic narrative and an orchestral approach to musical storytelling.

Lehensteiner studied composition with Rina Furano and music theory at the Prayner Conservatory Vienna. His music has received multiple international awards, including four prizes in the composition category of the Bach International Music Competition (2024), has been broadcast on ORF III and Radio Stephansdom, and recorded by Haley Myles and Tim Goss. Recent performances have included appearances in Austria and the United Kingdom, including concerts at St George’s Hanover Square, St Alfege Church and the University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Oxford.

Through his work, Lehensteiner seeks to contribute to the continuing evolution of the concert repertoire while creating music that communicates directly with contemporary listeners.
