About the Event

Clarinetist Margot Maurel and pianist Aurélie first crossed paths at the Royal Irish Academy of Music three years ago, where their shared dedication to chamber music quickly sparked a musical partnership. Both hailing from France, they discovered a natural affinity in their artistic expression, shaped by a common cultural heritage and musical sensibility. Their performances reflect this connection, blending warmth, elegance, and a deep understanding of the French repertoire.

Since joining forces, they have been committed to showcasing the works of composers from their home country, offering fresh and personal interpretations. With a keen sensitivity to phrasing and colour, they strive to reveal the emotional depth and subtle nuances of each piece, bringing the music to life with sincerity and passion. Their collaboration is a celebration of their shared roots and a testament to the expressive power of chamber music.

French clarinettist Margot Maurel graduated with first-class honors from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and is now completing her Master of Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has performed as soloist with the RTE Concert Orchestra last year and has received high standards awards such as the McCullough Cup and Jago Award at the Feis Ceoil Competition in 2023. Her love for chamber music has led her to perform in some of the most renowned venues across Dublin such as the National Concert Hall or the Hugh Lane Gallery but also in London at the 1901 Arts Club or the St Margaret Pattens Church.

Aurélie grew up in France where she learned piano and guitar. She studied musicality at Sorbonne University in Paris and worked as a pianist and actress with the theater company Les Amis de l'ABC in Angers. She also enjoys composing and has written music for films and for companies such as Matheson. Aurélie is now completing her Master's degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with Thérèse Fahy.
